Shame

it always amazes me
at how eloquent
people can be
in expressing discontent
at things quite irrelevant

There is a whole education
to be had
in the art of shaming:
body weight and shape,
LGBTQ,
mixed marriages, food,
you name it.

None of these
sap us
of our humanity
as much as
violence,
lack of compassion,
and injustice.
but where is the outcry?

We shame people
who watch porn
but allow our kids
to watch violence
on TV
and mobile devices.

We kill doctors
who perform abortions,
and find excuses
for gun crimes
while claiming
we're pro-life.

we should be better
than to use
poor examples
as validation
to behave worse,
or say nothing.

amazing how
blinkered people
miss the irony.
